Tis the Season!

We hope you have had a fantastic fall and are getting excited for the holiday season. We certainly are!

We are always privileged to take part in the National Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cenotaph. For the choristers in concert and chamber choirs, the day starts with a 7:30 am choir call. After 5 year watching from a distance, this was the first year I volunteered behind the scenes as 2 conductors, 17 volunteers and approximately 100 choristers worked together to pay tribute. As the choir left the Chateau Laurier (where they rested between the technical rehearsal and the ceremony) we walked single file in a narrow path through the crowds – our choristers in their red jackets walking straight and proud through the cold, focused on the important role they play. And they kept that focus throughout the ceremony.

We are proud of our choristers and privileged to be a part of the day. Thank you to all the volunteers and parents. You can see the ceremony HERE. Look for the choir at times: 1:13:45, 1:18:45, 1:22:40, 1:33:14

Christmas concert and Cookie Social

If you have been lucky enough to catch some of the rehearsals, you know how lovely the choirs are sounding! The Christmas concert is a perennial favourite and sells out every year, so buy your tickets soon HERE

All are invited to the Cookie Social that follows the Concert. This OCC tradition is a fabulous way to celebrate and socialize. All families are invited to bring nut free cookies (bought or homemade) to the Church basement once the doors open for the Concert at 2:30pm.

Volunteers ARE the OCC!

Thank you to all who are contributing as choir managers, camp coordinators, theory markers, photographers and so much more. We are specifically looking for people to contribute to communications, event planning for our March Chamber Concert, and our Berry Fundraiser in January. Sign up HERE

If you have not filled in our more general volunteer form, you can fill it in HERE. Check your weekly choir emails for ongoing opportunities. Please, tell us what you did! Tracking volunteer hours will help us with our grant submissions and annual reporting, help us plan for the future, and allow us to celebrate all you do. This survey will be sent regularly to volunteers by the choir managers. You can also fill it in HERE

Fundraising

Since registration fees only cover approximately half of our expenses, fundraising is a key activity. Thank you to Jane Haycock (Board member and Viva parent) for leading the charge this year!

FundScrip – New this year. With small changes to our everyday spending habits through the purchase and use of gift cards, we can make important contributions to the OCC. With just 2 orders this year we have raised over $600.  Please sign up HERE.  December orders can be picked up after the dress rehearsal on Dec 10th or during the Cookie Social on Dec 15th.

There is much more to come on Fundraising overall from Jane, stay tuned!  In the new year we will be stepping up efforts to attract corporate and individual donors - ideally finding donors from beyond the immediate OCC community, to lessen the load on our already generous family and friends.  If you have ideas about people or businesses we might approach, or if you are interested in being part of the fundraising team, you can contact her at: [email protected]ottawachildrenschoir.ca

November 22nd – OCC Social at Grounded

We had a lovely evening at Grounded Kitchen. We will do this again in the Spring so look for the invitation on social media and in your choir emails.

Strategic Plan in the works!

The OCC has begun development of an ambitious new strategic plan to guide our growth, improvement and sustainability. We will be reaching out to parents and choristers in the coming months through a survey and opportunities for face to face group engagement. Stay tuned! Please contact [email protected]ottawachildrenschoir.ca if you have any questions or ideas to share.
