OCC Fall Welcome!

0

Welcome to the 2019-2020 Season!

We are off to a fast and fabulous start to the year! The Chamber and Concert choir camps were a huge success and the Viva, Prima and Boy’s choirs are all off and running!

We are privileged to be working with Odawa First Nations composer Barbara Croall, who was commissioned to compose a trilingual (Algonquin, French and English) piece based on a poem by Algonquin poet Albert Dumont entitled I Remember the Heartbeat.  Ms. Croall met the Chamber choir and explained her sources of inspiration for the piece, and introduced the choristers to aspects of traditional instruments, dance, and spirituality.  She spoke about how she interpreted the meaning of the text, written by Algonquin elder Albert Dumont, into a musical setting. We are looking forward to the premiere this season!

Our very own Jamie Loback and Jennifer Berntson were interviewed by Rogers TV about the Ottawa Children's Choir. They did an amazing job highlighting the OCC and the kids. Take a look - HERE - to see the interview.

Volunteers ARE the OCC!

Thank you to all who are contributing as choir managers, camp coordinators, theory markers, photographers and so much more.

With the season underway, we will be reaching out to those who filled in the volunteer survey. If you haven’t yet filled it out – it is HERE. Check your weekly choir emails for ongoing opportunities.

Please, tell us what you did! Tracking volunteer hours will help us in our grant submissions and annual reporting, help us plan for the future, and allow us to celebrate all you do. This survey will be sent regularly to volunteers by the choir managers. If we miss you, you can fill it in HERE

Fundraising – a sneak peak

Since registration fees only cover approximately half of our expenses, fundraising is a key activity.

Thank you to Jane Haycock (Board member and Viva parent) for leading the charge this year!

There are 2 OCC-wide initiatives that will get underway this fall.

  • Fundscrip – new this year. With small changes to our everyday spending habits through the purchase of gift cards, we can make important contributions to the OCC. More information coming on this fantastic this initiative: [email protected]ottawachildrenschoir.ca

  • Auction – we will have an online auction again this year, just in time for Christmas shopping! Check your weekly choir emails for more info or contact: [email protected]ottawachildrenschoir.ca if you are interested in contributing.

There is much more to come on Fundraising overall from Jane, stay tuned! If you are interested in being part of the team, you can contact her at: [email protected]ottawachildrenschoir.ca
