Call for Applications – Board of Directors 2018-2019


 “The Ottawa Children’s Choir is devoted to artistic excellence, community connection and above all, to the joy of singing”.

We are seeking energetic individuals from the Ottawa community to fill vacancies for community representatives on our Board of Directors for the upcoming 2018-2019 Choir year.

The Board of Directors manages the affairs of the Ottawa Children’s Choir, planning strategies and developing policies, programs and activities to achieve its mission and its mandate to enrich artistically the lives of our choristers, their families and the community.

The Nominating Committee reviews the structure, composition and balance of skills and experience of the Board each year, and seeks qualified candidates for nomination to attain a Board that is reflective of the community it serves. We are particularly interested in people with skills or experience in the following areas:

  • Not-for-profit corporate governance
  •  Communications
  • Fundraising
  • Volunteer coordination

As a Board member you must be willing to commit a minimum of 8 to 10 hours each month to serve the Board, depending on your assigned role.  Members of the Board must attend all Board meetings, occasional choir rehearsals, the OCC’s two self-presented concerts each year and the Annual General Meeting.

The overall responsibilities of the Board include:

·       ensuring that the organization is operated according to the laws and within the framework of its    mission, while safeguarding the organization’s assets;

·       ensuring proper management of the organization;

·       securing appropriate funding to carry out the activities of the organization;

·       bringing the experience and varied perspectives of the organization’s constituencies to the Board.

The Board of Directors, in accordance with the Bylaws, consists of up to thirteen Directors, of whom at least seven and up to ten must be representatives of the Ottawa community. Directors will be elected at the Annual General Meeting on Thursday, June 14, 2018, to serve for one- or two-year terms. The term of the 2018-2019 Board of Directors commences on July 2, 2018.
